Blasted Goals!

In general, I am a very goal oriented person. So it really bothers me when I set out to do something but don't accomplish it regardless of the reasons...which is why I am a little pessimistic this late in June about my June quilting goals. So far, I have only completed one of them! I worked feverishly tonight on another project, so hope that I can get it done and out of the way by Monday so that I can mark that one off my list! I have done at least a little work on everything on the list, and I think I have spent a good amount of time in my sewing room this month. Only one new project took me awry and one afternoon when I had time and energy to sew but not a working machine. I cut out some fabric for a new project that afternoon, so while it was fun...it didn't point me in the right direction.

The one item that I did finish this month is a paper-pieced block of the month for an online group I am a member of. I really like the result and really like that I now have 9 of the 12 months complete (with only 1 month behind schedule) for the finished quilt. I will be excited to get the last two patterns over the next two months and put a final quilt together later in the year. Here's a preview - the Carol Doak June block of the Month.

Darn Allergies

After a challenging weekend for Jack, I found out today that he is allergic to Penicillin. He had an ear infection diagnosed about 10 days ago at his 15 month check-up and went on Amoxicillin for it...we thought he was doing better, but he had a fever from Thursday to Sunday and today had this wierd rash all over himself after his morning nap. We high-tailed it into the Doctor's office to be diagnosed with the allergy. So, now he goes on round two of meds and may have the rash for up to two more weeks. It showed up just following the last dose of his Amox., so she said it will probably hang around for a while.

While we were there, Jenna didn't look that hot earlier, so the pediatrician looked in her ears to discover that she's sporting an ear infection too! Ugh! So, another prescription....but this does help to explain some of the moodiness she's been displaying recently.

Both kids are down for a nap now, so I am hoping the meds will be kicking in soon. Jenna is asleep in the hallway b/c she didn't want to sleep in her bed (she told me that she didn't need a nap and was actually trying to crawl out of her room, I think!). She is also in her Halloween costume from 2006, which really doesn't fit anymore, but it is still in the closet, so she still squeezes into it sometimes! What a character!

Nothing Like a Day at the Pool!

Today was our first day of the season to get to the pool. We don't have one in our neighborhood, so we have to mooch off of my parents. My mom was a little wary when I talked to her at 9:00 and said we wanted to come up and swim...it was still in the upper 70's then, so a little cool. I figured the pool would be warm enough, though, and it was.

Jack was a natural. Once he got used to the temp. of the water, he loved it. We jumped up and down, splashed, kicked, and he even tried to blow bubbles. He did hold on well, but had a great time in the water.
Jenna was a little more reluctant. She held on with a death grip to me and/or mom. We thought that she'd like the baby pool more and tried that, but she didn't like her lack of balance when walking in the water, so we went back to the "big pool." She finally did relax enough to get her face a little wet and to have some fun kicking and splashing.

After the pool time, we had a little snack by the side of the pool, which Jack gobbled up, of course. We headed back to mom and dad's and Jack couldn't make it...the water, sun, and lull of the stroller were just too much for him!

He snoozed for a good 45 minutes in the stroller, woke up to eat, came home and is now snoozing again. Jenna opted for a nap at Gran's and from what I understand, she is out too! So, I am off to work on one of my sewing projects that I want to finish this month!

Check out those curls!

I have had several friends who had boys with curly hair, but never thought that I would have one! Jack's hair has taken a while to come in and is still pretty thin, but he has this rash of curls at the nape of his neck, and I love it. The rest of his hair seems to be coming in pretty straight, so it will be interesting to see what it looks like over the next few months. I am afraid we aren't going to be able to cut it though, because he uses them like a safety blanket and curls them around his fingers whenever he is tired. It is actually two fingers from one hand in his mouth and the other hand messing with his curls. It is really quite cute, if I don't say so myself!

We head to the pediatrician on Friday for his 15 month appointment, so look for a post then on current height and weight. He seems to me as if he has gotten really long recently, but maybe it is just because he's been bearing his legs in shorts for the summer.

May Projects

I decided during the month of May to start keeping a list of my quilting accomplishments for the month. I am happy to have several items on the list this month:
- Fat Quarter frenzy project - memo board
- Gareth's quilt
- 2 Indiana puzzle blocks for Quilters in Indiana block lottery
- X-bag purse
- Sara's quilt top (w/out borders so far)
- Regan's bag (my favorite project of the month, since it will replace my purse that I don't like but have been using since late last year!)
- 3 Buck a block blocks
- Attended Mary Buvia's machine quilting class
- Purchased a Janome 6600 and started sewing on my new, awesome machine!
Sometimes I feel like I don't have enough time in the sewing room or don't get enough done, but it is nice to see the list and realize that I really did do quite a bit this month, in addition to staying busy with the kids. Goals for this month include:
- UFO #3 for my bee (a wall hanging to remain unidentified since it is for a friend who may read my blog).
- Bind Jack's quilt
- Assemble top for Squares Upon Squares blocks won through Quilting in Indiana
- Finish cross-stitch baby announcement for twins born in December!
- 2 Carol Doak blocks of the month - May and June
I will be really happy if I get all those done. Good news is that I am going to a sewing day on the 14th, so should have several hours of dedicated time there to work on some of the projects above.
