The Year Ahead

Over the past few weeks, I have been reviewing my 2009 goals and thinking ahead to 2010. I had drafted several goals in my head, but the passing of my friend Lois earlier this week has changed things a little. You see, Lois mentioned casually one day that she planned to leave me her stash. It turns out that she also shared this wish with her sons and they would like to honor it. Soooo....my first order of business this year will be cleaning out her sewing room with my bee and bringing home lots of new fabric. I am so grateful for the gift she's left me, but let me tell you, I really didn't want it this soon. I would much rather have had Lois around for another dozen years.

I have some new goals now that include going through her UFOs and helping to finish them. Several from our bee have also said they will drop their current projects to help finish UFOs so that her family can have them. I have no idea what or how many we'll find.

Here's a review of my 2009 goals and the progress I made on them:

  • Quilt at least eight quilts on the HQ16 - DONE
    • Valentines Wall Hanging
    • Mystery Quilt Re-do
    • Charity Baby Quilt for my mom
    • Lois' Trip Around the World
    • Mom's Oriental Circles
    • Nick's Log Cabin QOV
    • Julie's Quilt
    • Suzie's Raindrops
  • Quilt of Valor for Nick - DONE
Here's my list of goals for 2010:
  • Report my stash usage and acquisition (not sure yet how/if I will count Lois' fabric in this, but I will definitely count my purchases)
  • Finish at least 4 more UFOs
  • Locate, divide amongst bee, and help to finish Lois' UFOs
  • Quilt a dozen items on the HQ16
  • Fall Table Topper
  • Twin size bed quilt for Jenna
  • Five easy pieces king size bed quilt for us
  • Do something without a pattern...art quilty
  • Start on a bed quilt for my college roommate and her husband
  • Make more table runners
I think that's a good list. As I know from last year, this list keeps me focused when I finish one project and can't decide what to start next. I also know that I will probably get far more than this done.

Happy New Year to all of you!

You made great progress on everything!! Way to go!!

I wouldn't count Lois' fabric as an in. First, it would probably ruin your reporting for the whole year! Second, since she passed in 2009, technically it was yours in 2009 and not 2010. I think that is pretty good reasoning! lol

That is such an awesome thing for her to do - leaving you her fabric. And it gives you such a great way to honor her memory! I wish that I had a chance to meet her!

And you have a great list for 2010! We will have to support each other on getting our goals done!

Your list, both last year and this seem reasonable. Stash: I wouldn't count up what you have but start with what you buy and what you use, everything in and out for this year.

Oh wow - what a giving spirit Lois has! Your list is wonderful - I can't wait to see your finished projects!
I am sorry to hear about your friend and think that it is fantastic that you are going to finish her UFO's for her family. I think that will make great memories for you as well as her family.

What a wonderful gift. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. You must have been very special for her to share something she loved so much with you. What a blessing.
