Stash Report - Week 16 2013

I have several things on my to-do list for others this month, and I think it has helped me get a little bit of my quilting motivation back - deadlines have a tendency to do that!

Last week, I worked on finishing a comfort quilt for a coworker who is undergoing cancer treatments and started one for another coworker who is starting treatments in a few weeks.  I also finished up the hood for the tiger shark costume I made for our friend Richard, who is in his play at school this week. I got the binding made for the charity quilt I've been working on.

I had a little stash usage for the bindings, and the second comfort quilt, but everything else was fabric that was given to me to work with, and I didn't count it coming in, so won't count it going out either.
The first comfort quilt was a joint effort, with blocks made by team members who work closely with the lady who will receive it - everything from iron on patches to embroidery (some taught by you tube just for this purpose!) to yarn balls! I got all the blocks and put them into this layout, added the applique block with the hearts growing from the pot, made an added the two four patch blocks, and then assembled and quilted it all.  I was glad to find a batik that went well with all the colors in the quilt and had enough for the borders and the binding. The back is fleece and this is the first time I've quilted with fleece.  It was very easy to use and I would use it again. I did still put a layer of batting in because the fleece was so loud that I didn't want it to show through to the front.  I used my Magnifico thread from Superior for the first time and really liked it. I had one spot that gave me some trouble, but other than that, it went together very nicely.  I used So Fine in the bobbin and the two threads seemed to get along well.
