March 2026 - Market and Garment

The month of March saw me traveling south and traveling east and traveling southeast and I had a great time on all the travels. The month started with my son's birthday, so we took a one-day trip southeast to Cincinnati to take him to lunch and to buy snacks. It was great to see him and spend part of the day with him.

The next weekend was a little longer trip. My mom and I headed to Franklin, TN for the Nashville Needlework Market, and annual wholesale cross-stitch market. We are lucky enough to be shoppers for Persnickety Stitchers and we had another successful market. We shopped in almost all the shops, bought fabric and patterns and needle minders and scissors (and a few other things too!). We visited with designers and friends and had some good meals. I picked up a few things for myself including fabric, patterns, and a finishing piece. It's a very quick weekend with shops opening Friday at 4pm, but a very fun and inspirational one too.

We always enjoy chatting with Helen and Barbie on Sunday

The next weekend found me at home with a chance to take a quick breath. I was able to get in a little FFO'ing that weekend and finished stitching on one piece and fully finished two other pieces.

Mid-March found me on the way to New York City to meet up with my son and husband and then connect with my daughter. My son had spring break the week before my daughter, so he ended his break with the trip and she started hers. We stayed in the Garment district and boy, was that eye-opening! I really enjoyed walking by all the shops with intricate fabrics, feathers, trim, buttons, felt and anything else you need to sew clothing. I did a little shopping and picked up some trims I will use for FFO'ing. I also got a piece of fabric to make a backpack for my daughter.

In addition to the Garment District, we walked 5+ miles/day and saw the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Battery Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center. We visited the Museum of Natural History, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York Botanical Gardens (for the orchid show). And we ate (boy, did we eat) in Chelsea, Greenwich Village, East Village, and Hell's Kitchen. The best part of the trip was spending some good quality time with both of the kids.

They were still skating at Rockefeller Center

It was a beautiful day to see Lady Liberty

The Orchid Show was beautiful

Wrapping up the trip at The Met

I ended the month with a couple stitching finishes - on in New York and one when I got back home. I am very happy to have both of these finished and love how they turned out.

With all that activity, I didn't touch a sewing machine in March. I have a quilt waiting for me on the frame and fabric just waiting to be made into blocks. I hope to get back to both of them in April, which should be a little calmer - only one weekend planned away from home for a cross-stitch retreat.

Here are the stats for the month:

Stash Report with Donna at quiltpaintcreate

No changes - still at 0 yards added, 0 yards used for the year

Stitching Time with Kate at Life in Pieces

24/31 days with at least 15 minutes of crafting = 77%
I was very glad to have my stitching while traveling. My flight home was delayed by a few hours and I stitched away the afternoon while waiting for it. The best part is when a woman sitting near me said "I should have brought my embroidery too!"

Project Finishing:
+2 stitching finishes, -2 stitching FFOs = 39 waiting to be FFO'ed
no changes to the quilts = 8 projects waiting to be fully finished

I hope you had a nice March too whether you traveled to and fro or stayed close to home.
