It seems like May has gone on a long time with the way the calendar fell this year. I like a month with five Saturdays, especially when one of them has a long weekend. I've made good use of those Saturdays for stitching and quilting and have some fun progress to share.
May brings the annual #stitchmaynia challenge, which was started as a challenge to start lots of new projects. I did that once several years ago, but found that I prefer working on a mix of WIPs and new starts for a few days each. I had five WIPs going into the month (perfect!) and five new starts.

I finished three of them in the month, woo hoo. Two of the WIPs were close and I was able to get them both done in 3 days of stitching, and one of my new starts was small and I was able to finish it up with some extra stitching on Sunday, May 31st.

In addition to making some good stitching progress this month, I also did a little quilting. I made the binding for Reindeer Xing and got it attached...mostly.

Oops, too short on the binding!
|
Turns out I was about 15" short and out of fabric. Yikes! I called the quilt shop where I bought the fabric and they didn't have any left (not surprising, I think I bought it two years ago). Thanks to the internet, I found it and was able to get a yard. I made the extra strip and finished up the binding this afternoon. I still have tie-offs to do where I had thread breaks in the quilting so this one will officially become a June finish.

I also did some fabric cutting this month to prep for making another purse. I've had the pattern and fabric together for quite a while and am ready to make this one, I think it will be a project for June. I also ordered from
Georgia Girl Stitches the first time - I am going to make a sling backpack for my daughter with the fabric we bought in the garment district and we found some great webbing and zippers on that site, so that bag will be next up.

It really was a good month for stitching and quilting, I am so glad I was able to find the fabric still in stock so I didn't have to improvise on the binding. In addition to a lot of great crafting, the month also found both kids home. My son arrived on the 1st and my daughter a little later. We enjoyed two weeks with her home and now she's back in NY to work at school this summer. I saw two musicals with my mom, attended a birthday celebration at my work with my husband and son, and we had a great weekend trip to Evansville to see my cousin and her family and go to Holiday World.
My plans for June include prepping for some patriotic stitching in July, finishing up the last step on my quilt, doing some FFO'ing and working on one, maybe two purses/bags. I'll be back next month to share how much of that really gets done!
The monthly stats:
Stitching Time with Kate at
Life in Pieces: 31/31 days with crafty time = 100%
Fabric added this month: 1 yard
Fabric used this month: 1 yard
Fabric added year to date: 1 yard
Fabric used year to date: 1 3/4 yards
Net fabric used: 3/4 yards
Project finishing:
+3 stitching finishes, 0 FFOs = 42 items waiting to be fully finished
+1 quilting project (the purse), 0 finishes = 9 projects waiting to be fully finished
Hope you had a great May!
