Ideas Please

So, blogger tells me that there are over 50 of you who read these posts when I put them out - wow! thanks! And now I need your help.

A couple months ago, I finished this cute little snap sack top and I have it all basted up and ready for quilting. I even stitched in the ditch between the blocks and the border, but now I am stuck. Gol' darn stuck. I have been perusing through the designs over at Leah Day's blog, and like several of them, but just can't decide what to do. I want something that will be more on the minimal side than on the heavily quilted side. I am not good with feathers, so can't even contemplate them, but I am fairly adventurous outside of that. I am open to one design in the blocks and another in the border or something that goes all over.

Please leave me a comment with your thoughts! Oh, and by the way, the top is only about 12 x 20, it's a little sucker and I will be quilting it on my Janome 6600. And I tell you what, just to sweeten the pot a little, how about I pick out a little fabric to send the person who gives me the idea that I wind up quilting? So when you leave me a comment, let me know your favorite color or fabric type (batik/oriental/etc) so I can pick out something you like!

I am a 'fan' of fans. I think they would look great and be fun to do.- cw

I don't do much machine quilting, so may not be the best source of inspiration but I saw this cool free form flower that I want to try - kind of spirally in the center with erratic overlapping circles, and then loopy petals that come back over each other but get increasingly larger. got the mental picture? Yeah - not so great - but I can't find the link where I saw it... I think the roundness would offset the squareness of this quilt.
I really like the motif in the border fabric! But, I'd have to trace it/transfer it. If it's the backing fabric as well you could quilt it from the back. Or, how about branches with leaves, something organic looking?
on green quilts...I like leaves.

I'm also not that experienced with machine quilting, but you never mentioned the purpose of the quilt - is it for you or someone else?

Since this is small, it might be a perfect piece to practice some of those options that you like from Leah's site but just make them "looser" in design. You could use 12 different ones for the blocks and then a feather design for the border. Or, find two that you like and alternate in the blocks.

The batiks are beautiful and I've started collecting a variety to make a quilt.

I love combining organic curvy designs with straight lines, so how about:
1. Free motion spirals inside the small squares
2. A diagonal grid in the green background--marking the lines with masking tape and sewing with a walking foot makes it easy to quilt perfectly straight and evenly spaced lines
3. One of Leah's paisleys in the border--maybe Moon Paisley or Snake Paisley. I did something similar in this small doll quilt.

That to is begging for feathers! How are you going to get good if you don't do them? Can you draw a few out with a water soluble pen and do those to get the flow going? Do you want me to come help you with your feathers? :)

I too like the border fabric. Put it on the back and quilt by following the lines. No more fabric? Choose a bold flower, leaf or fern and quilt from the back. You can use a specialty thread in the bobbin to give it more wow.

Not sore if this is too late but my suggestion is a freehand fern pattern!!
Can you do something ferny or leafy?
