A New Plan

Earlier this week, Regina posted about QDD - Quilters Distraction Disorder. I have been struggling with this a bit lately too. While I have finished a few quilts this year, I have way too many projects in progress or abandoned (see my UFO list on the sidebar). This week, I decided I needed a new plan to get me finishing things more consistently. I usually post monthly goals on my blog, but I don't post them anywhere where I see them and I don't usually go back to look at them until I am posting at the end of the month. And really, a lot happens in a month! So, the new plan is a list with two categories: Do in the next week, and do in the next month. You probably can't read the details, but here's my list that was started on Wednesday night.

As I finish all the "do this week" items, then I can dip into the second part of the list. My plan is to update the list weekly and keep it visible to me in my sewing room (rather than on my computer :).

The plan was tested last night as I got a chance to sew and it did keep me on track. I almost got sidetracked once, but was able to contain myself because I knew what I needed to get done.

What process works for you? Let me know in the comments how you decide what to work on and how you make sure you're actually getting the things done that you want to get done.

Great idea!! I love having To Do lists and then marking thick black lines through things that I finish!

So far, making a list for the month and writing it on my white board that I leave up in my bedroom/sewing room has been pretty effective. As long as I write it all up there at the beginning of the month. This month, my only goals were to finish the 2 secret quilts and that is basically accomplished! :)

This year I have not done so well. Last year I kept a journal with weekly and monthly goals, also. I had sewing, quilting, and house(work) lists and also only allowed myself to work on 1 UFO, 1 new project, and one quilting project a month, plus whatever BOMs I was doing. That worked really well but for some reason I couldn't translate it over to this year. But I am working on it. ;-)

Great plan! I look forward to seeing how this works for you. I write everything down in a master notebook and then create a daily list based upon the tasks that I can reasonably accomplish in a day's time. When I was in the corporate world that was the process I implemented for our whole department..setting yearly, quarterly goals, monthly goals, weekly and then fine-tuning them down to a daily basis. I just took that same process home with me. That means there are times that quilting is just not a priority in my life, but I've made a conscious choice for it to be that way.
