Last night, my husband headed out with a friend to watch the basketball games, so I had my mom over to sew. The kids were tuckered out after a long week, and crashed quickly, which meant lots of sewing time for us!
Earlier in the week, I loaded a back on my frame so the first order of business was to load the batting and top. I am quilting this top for my friend Kathy, and she's going to donate is as a Quilt of Valor. Our bee made the blocks last year, and she put the top together. I have to admit that I do like it even though it is made out of those icky reproduction fabrics. I think it will be a nice quilt for a man.
I set up a station for my mom and she got going on a UFO that is at least 10 years old. Here she is going through my little bin of red FQs for a red that will match.
I did loops and stars all over the quilt with this lovely Lava thread (I think it is called Sandy Beach). Mom and I both agreed it was the perfect thread for this top.

It took a while to get this one done because it is a twin size, but I did get it finished! Here's a picture from the back of it. I used some thread in the bobbin that I haven't had luck with in the top - Essential Thread from Connecting Threads. I probably won't buy this thread again, but was glad to find a way to use up some of what I have.
My next two orders of business are my new purse (halfway done) and the second bucket filling quilt for the kids school. Let's hope I have enough energy this afternoon/evening to work on them!

Since I have found the new needles, my machine likes the Essentials thread now. I'm glad because I bought quite a bit of it! But it will be nice to be able to use it up! :)
