Allergy Blues

If you've been reading my blog for a while or have ever talked to me for more than about 10 minutes, then you know that my son Jack has a milk allergy (and maybe egg too, but that is just our speculation). He is nearing 2 1/2, and the last time he tried any substantial milk was at least 6 months ago, so I decided it was time to test things out again. This morning, he got 1/2 a cup of strawberry banana yogurt (bananas are his favorite food) for breakfast and he absolutely loved it. He didn't lick the container, but I bet he would have if he'd thought of it before I whisked it away.

We then spent the rest of the day waiting....waiting to see if he was just normal whiny or extra whiny, if he threw up, or if he had nasty diapers (I won't go into any lengthier of a description than that). About 30 minutes after breakfast, he told me his tummy was yucky, sign number one. I asked him about his tummy 15 minutes after that and he told me that it was "good," so I was hopeful. Then came the first diaper, then the second one during nap, then the whinies all afternoon. By the end of the day, my guy didn't look too good. He fell asleep so fast tonight that I know he had to be worn out from the day (and he didn't do much of anything, so I believe it was largely due to the discomfort he probably felt all day).

So, 6 more months without milk for him, which honestly isn't that hard now that we're used to it. I was just hoping he'd get his first taste of Ritter's this summer, but I guess it will have to wait until next year, hopefully.

What a bummer........ allergies are not fun. My daughter was on soy formula for quite a while when she was little. She still cannot eat eggs. Hope he is feeling better today!

Oh yuck! That's too bad! I hope that he does grow out of it or at least is able to handle it a little better. I couldn't imagine not being able to eat ice cream! :)

Poor little guy. You're a good mommy.

It's such a shame that the only way to test this is for him to feel yucky - that's gotta be hard on Mommy!
