February 2026 - Lots of Olympic Stitching

I always enjoy the end of February because it means March starts, and it starts with my son's birthday. He turns 19 today and we took the chance to go see him at school and take him for a birthday lunch. But we're here to talk about February and it was a great month. I didn't have any travel or any unexpected events this month, so I spent the whole month at home and it was lovely! Lots of time at home + the winter Olympics meant lots of good stitching time.

I joined Katie at The Naptime Stitcher (Instagram and Etsy) for Stitch the Winter Olympics, picking a project based on a prompt each day. I stitched while I watched (or maybe mostly during the commercials!) and enjoyed some new starts and some finishes. Almost all of my progress this month was related to my stitching.

Over the course of the month, I had four stitching finishes and four FFOs. Would you like to see them?

Moonbeam, an old Mill Hill kit, with all beads. I plan to FFO this as an ornament

Reflections of Ireland by Ink Circles
I stitched on 32 ct. Confetti linen with the called for DMC 4045

USA Red Zig Zag Sweater by Curated Haus (Etsy)
This was such a fun (and impromptu) project!
Stitched on Perforated Paper with called for DMC threads

Thanksgiving Biscornu - front and back - by Barbara Ana Designs
Stitched on 32 ct. Vintage Country Mocha with mostly called for threads

This was a great set of finishes and I hope they are all FFOs fairly soon. I have plans for each of them, so that makes the FFOs a bit easier. It just take a little time and inspiration to hit together.

I started the month on Feb 1 with two FFOs to keep up with my challenge to myself to FFO something for each weekend I am home. I had two weekends in January to catch up on, so I knocked out a couple finishes that have been waiting in the wings a while.
Christmas in Ohio from the 2016 JCS Ornament Issue
I stitched this one in May 2017, so it waited close to a decade for an FFO!
Finished as a "tree" with a place card holder (got the idea from Helen - Eastcoast Crafter)
Starry Skies by Cherry Hill Stitchery
I stitched this one in 2024 and finished it on the Chantel Bender board. I think I'll need to find a fun piece to put at the top of the board - someone recommended a s'more!

Mid-month, I finished two more projects to keep me up to date for the first half of February - I go into March needing to do two more FFOs to keep up with my challenge.
Mad for Plaid Winter, the last of four seasons for me to finish. It's mounted on
Chantelle's wooden piece (I can't remember the name of it) and I need to find a few decorations to put into the tray each season. I love these fun little stitches and will enjoy having them on display each year. Stitched on 32 Charcoal linen with the called for Cosmo threads.

Adios Bitchachos by Solvem Probler (Etsy)
I stitched this funny piece on 36 ct. Weathered Stone with called for DMC threads last year
Finished on two layers of mat board and glued to a hanging board from Michael's (that was $1 in the clearance section!). I am pretty happy with the finish and hope the recipient of this gift will love it.

On the quilting side, I don't have anything worth sharing in pictures - I made 19 more neutral four-patch blocks, and I loaded my Reindeer Xing quilt on the frame so that it's ready for quilting. I hope to make some progress on it in March.

All in all, it was a great month with a few warm days for walks in the sunshine and a few cold days to be cozy on the couch. I'll finish the post with a picture of me and my husband showing off our international beers and Italian-themed dinner to open the Winter Olympics.

Here are the stats for February:
Stitching time with Kate at Life in Pieces
26/28 days with at least 15 minutes of crafty time = 90%

Stash Reporting with Donna at quiltpaintcreate
0 yards added in February
0 yards used again in February
Net fabric used: 0 yards - a boring result year to date!

Project finishing:
Cross Stitch: +4 stitching finishes, -4 FFOs = 39 projects to be finished (I found an extra one that hadn't been logged before)
Quilting: No new starts, no quilting finishes = 8 projects waiting to be finished

Happy stitching and quilting, see you again at the start of April!
